Conventional options unlikely to work vs laser option that might
Conventional options for treating toenail fungus include:
- Oral medications – Toenail fungus grows in the nail bed, an area with limited blood supply, making treatment time-consuming and unlikely to be successful. Plus, medications may have side effects.
- Topical skin ointments – Liquids usually cannot penetrate to the fungus which grows beneath the nail.
Laser therapy option – Because light from a laser can penetrate the nail to reach the fungus which grows beneath the surface, lasers can be a better option for treating toenail fungus. But, not all lasers are the same.
It takes time – Treatment effectiveness cannot be fully seen until discolored nail surface is replaced with fresh nail.
